AHRC Nassau Leads the Way in New Waiver Program

Law firm Rosicki, Rosicki & Associates, P.C., take a long-term view on the health of its community. Performing legal services in areas of evictions, collections, bankruptcy, and more, Rosicki, Rosicki & Associates, P.C., also supports numerous charitable efforts, including those of the Nassau County AHRC Foundation, Inc.

AHRC Nassau recently played a leading role in the implementation of a waiver that allows New York State’s Office for People with Developmental Disabilities to move to a managed-care model of service rather than a fee-for-service model. The waiver, called a 1115 waiver or a People First Waiver, enabled the state to create a pilot program in which AHRC Nassau and seven other organizations will participate.

As part of its role in the pilot, AHRC Nassau will be allotted a fixed amount of funding per person each month to cover that person’s services. The agency will then assign sites and services based on the individual’s needs and will be freed from current reporting requirements, which require the organization to document how much time each individual spends receiving a given service. The program’s goal is to integrate care into the community and center care more on individual needs.
