The Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center (JCC) in East Hills, New York, offers a variety of services for people with special needs, including swim classes, vocational training, and respite care for children and adults. The JCC’s special needs program has been in place for more than 30 years. Offering a person-centered approach, it focuses on making sure that every child, teen, and adult in its programs is working toward his or her fullest potential. Each participant receives a full assessment so that he or she receives the best placement possible in the JCC’s programs.
The JCC’s special needs program staff is comprised of professionals with experience in social work, psychology, and special education. They work with people with autism disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and a number of other special needs. Through the Sid Jacobson JCC, families have access to programs that provide socialization and respite through summer day camp, a vocational program for teens and young adults in the summer, and year-round social skills groups.
