One of the most important AHRC Nassau programs is its Community Hubsite initiative. Adults with developmental disabilities hoping to play an active role in their communities are connected to various volunteerism and skill-building opportunities, which provide socialization and vocational training.

Each day, individuals gather at more than 30 locations throughout Nassau County to participate in skill-building programs before entering the community to assist the elderly, run errands for the homebound, and complete other volunteer tasks. These tasks teach individuals how to navigate the world and become an integral part of the community. A clinical support network backs participants every step of the way and remains available to address any concerns.

At present, more than 900 volunteers attend these day programs and contribute to more than 60 volunteer job sites. These sites include museums, hospitals, animal hospitals, libraries, and senior centers.
